Dark Crystal fandom is a niche within a niche. It’s a fandom that’s been primarily underground. The original 1982 film has been kept alive by a hard core group of people over the years. The new series from Netflix is about to change the game fundamentally.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will blow the door open, creating a bigger fandom and a lot to discuss in the coming years.
With a possible season two happening (if the show does well) more books and tie-ins, this very small world is about to get a lot bigger. The question still remains; Where is footage for Age of Resistance?
The frustration is so palpable, it’s dividing and eclipsing an otherwise very jovial fan community. In their latest episode of Trial By Stone: The Dark Crystal Podcast, hosts Philip and Jaime (other regular co-host Ethan couldn’t be in attendance unfortunately) break down the frustration in fandom, their time at the Henson Studios, meeting a voice actor from the new show, and a surprise meeting with writers of Netflix’ forthcoming series.
A takeaway from this discussion is that this is every day business for Netflix.
Often times they will release shows that no one knew was in the works, and they disappear in that great ether of content. Some of the fear about the new show is that lack of promotion will ensure the show is lost when it arrives.
